OY! WHO IS IT? PINSCHER?
CHIHUAHUA? PAPILLON? RUSSIAN TOY?
What is the difference between Miniature Pinscher,
Chihuahua, Papillion and the Russian Toy?
Doesn't matter how much you can read or hear about Russian Toys you
still won't feel the difference between these dogs and other breeds. We
also tried to throw straws against the wind for a long time until decided that the most convincing argument of the difference between
these four breeds could be pictures.
"He who has eyes shall see"
As far as our kennel only breeds Russian Toys, we dare
to borrow pictures of the other breeds from our friends, other kennels or we
just found them on Internet. In the case where it was taken from a kennel,
we will put a link to those kennels.
Well... Here we go! Let us start from their heads!
This is the head of Chihuahua

This is a Pinscher
(Kennel Lara Gris http://laragris.narod.ru/)

This is a Papillion

And this is the Russian Toy (smooth and long-haired)

So, how much similarity can you find in these 4 heads?
Exactly! Nothing is the same, except that all of them are heads :).
Let us go to their bodies. It is widely known that
Pinschers have short hair only. They don't have long hair on their ears or
paws. But even if you are trying to compare a Pinscher to a smooth-haired
Russian Toy, look at the shape of their bodies. By the way, if not for the
person behind this dog, who would say this dog is only 13-14 inch. at the
withers?

Papillion has only the long haired type. And although
this breed is also small, you still easy can see the difference with the
Russian Toy.

But most of the time people try to compare Russian
Toys to Chihuahuas. So, here we go! Chihuahuas (of course the high quality
dogs) are also quite different than Russian Toys. They have smooth and long
types of coat as well. That is why we will show both of them here.
These are Chihuahuas

And finally the Russian Toy in two varieties.

Well... Still don't see any difference?
If you look at Breed History
of this breed, you will find the description of its development. They are
related to English Toy-Terriers. And the English Toy-Terrier is the one from
whom Russian Toy got the "Terrier" word in one of its previous names -
Russkiy Toy-Terrier.
The English Toy-Terrier as a breed at this time has
almost died out. If you ever decide to own one of them, it will be a heroic
deed to find the puppy.
Here are some pictures of this dying breed. You can
see how different it is from the Russian Toy.
And how much the Russian Toy went its own way in
development.
